The Chinook Centre Expansion opened to the public on Wednesday, September 29, 2010. It has over 60 new stores and first-to-Calgary brands, including a new two level heated underground parkade with 1,200 stalls.
Construction Fun Facts
- Total number of project man hours was 800,000.
- It took 1.25 million construction man hours to complete the project.
- 14,933 truckloads of dirt was removed from the excavation site... equivalent to 90 Olympic size swimming pools!
- 1,200 tonnes of structural steel was used.
- 10 Olympic size swimming pools would be required to hold the amount of concrete used in the project, a total of 3,000 large concrete trucks.
- 61,000 square feet of floor tile was used. That equals 19 km of tile, 1’ wide.
Grand Court
The Grand Court is truly the heartbeat of the next chapter in Chinook Centre's 50
year-old history. Raising the bar in luxury retail, two spectacular chandeliers are surrounded by unique to Calgary retailers including Abercrombie and Fitch, Hollister and Kiehl's. Opening by Christmas 2010 - Armani Exchange, Urban Outfitters and Anthropologie.

- All of the Grand Court wood bands came from a single fletch of wood. They are cut from a single section of a single tree.
